Vision of the Healthy Buildings Barometer 2024

The Healthy Buildings Barometer 2024 covers all major building types providing significant insights into all our buildings and their users health

Buildings that benefit individuals, society, and the planet

The 2024 Healthy Buildings Barometer is designed to support policymakers at national and EU levels, as well as building sector stakeholders, to achieve healthy and sustainable buildings for all people throughout Europe.

Since 2015, the Healthy Homes Barometer has been tracking the state of European homes and shining a spotlight on workplaces and educational institutions. The 2024 edition has been renamed Healthy Buildings Barometer and now extends to all major building types providing significant insights into all our buildings and their users’ health.

It provides insights into the state of European buildings and a new framework, based on scientific research, that can be used to develop healthy and sustainable buildings.

It also presents policy recommendations to align action for healthy buildings with the decarbonisation goal of the Paris Climate Agreement by 2050. As the EU is off track towards reaching the 2050 climate targets for energy and renovations, this is a matter of urgency.

Why do we need healthy buildings?

Research shows that Europe’s buildings are failing their occupants in many different ways – from issues with increasing costs for housing and energy to creating many different health issues.
